New Kid on the Block June 5, 2012

By: Andrew Matt

After months of searching, phone calls, emails, interviews and a less than healthy amount of anxiety, I finally landed my first public relations internship! I cannot think of a better place for my first internship than Open Channels Group, and I am incredibly thankful and excited to have been accepted into such an amazing family of gifted professionals.

For those who want to know a little bit about me, I recently finished my second year at the University of Oklahoma where I am studying public relations and loving every minute of it! I also celebrated my 20th birthday this past Monday. When I return to OU in the fall I will begin work at Lindsey+Asp, the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication’s on-campus, student-run public relations and advertising agency. Lindsey+Asp does work for a diverse group of clients including Pita Pit, Fort Sill and American Airlines.

My parents are both from Milwaukee, but I am very blessed that they left the frozen tundra of Wisconsin for Texas more than 25 years ago and never looked back. I was born in Bedford and have been raised in Colleyville my entire life. My dad is now happily retired while my mom continues to teach junior high science. I have a sister who graduated from OU in 2010 and currently works as a nurse at the VA hospital in Oklahoma City.

In my free time I enjoy playing guitar, reading a good book, playing sand volleyball, watching sports and spending time with family or friends. Among my favorite things are writing, meeting new people and home-cooked meals. Especially the home-cooked meals.

I still can’t believe that my first day as an intern has now come and gone! Everyone at Open Channels Group has already made me feel incredibly welcome. I look forward to getting to know everyone, learning a lot and doing my best to help Open Channels Group continue its incredible growth and success.
