Four Teams Scoring Big in Social Media July 2, 2012
In the last few years, social media has become an integral tool for consumers, brands and corporations to communicate with people from all around the world. People are using social media outlets like Facebook, Google+ and Twitter to promote everything and anything; themselves, their companies, their hobbies, etc. One of the biggest users of the social media platform have been professional sports teams.
Below are four teams that are using social media effectively.
1. FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona is a very popular Spanish soccer team. They currently have more than 33 million Facebook fans and more than 5.8 million Twitter followers. The secret to their success? The team uses a Bing translation plug-in that creates an English and Spanish version of each tweet they send out to fans.
The Dallas Cowboys are the second most valuable sports team in the world according to Forbes.com. It’s not a surprise that they have more than 300,ooo Twitter followers and nearly 5 million Facebook fans. The Dallas Cowboys are great at connecting with their fans, and since Google+ launched, they’ve used its hangout function to host interactive conversations between star players and fans.
The Chicago Bulls are well known for their rich history and their collection of basketball championships. They are also becoming recognized for their use of social media. In addition to connecting with their fans on Facebook and Twitter, the Chicago Bulls have their own social network site called Bulls Connect that allows fans to communicate directly with one another, follow other fans, write blog posts, and share fan photos.
The Boston Celtics are one of the NBA’s social media power users. They have amassed more than 600,000 Twitter followers and more than 6.6 million Facebook fans. One unique way they have connected with fans is through the use of the photo sharing website, Instagram. On this site, they share pre-game, post game and behind the scenes photos with their 220,000 thousand fans.
As the use of social media continues to gain popularity, you can expect to see more sports teams use Facebook, Twitter or Google+ to promote their respective teams and connect with their fans.
